Byron Bay Surf Festival
Wood sniffers proved the performance of wooden surfboards in peaky Wategos waves.
Varuna Surf hosted the Byron Bay Surf Festival’s Wood Sniffers event and the community proved the performance of wooden surfboards in peaky Wategos waves. Froth levels fizzed in the spring sunshine when Varuna Surf Co-Founder Damo Cole gathered the Wood Sniffers together for an all in sustainable surf off. Winners would receive their choice of Varuna Surf craft and the competition rules were as follows – party wave, crossover, crack big smiles and the most stoked surfer would take home the prize.
With new shapes, from legendary shapers arriving every month we were able to get feet in the wax of some soon to be released Joel Fitzgerald Cosmic Twin’s. Check out Joel’s collection of Varuna boards. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!
The Varuna tent at Wategos Beach on Sunday for the Style and Stoke Sessions was a meeting place, melting pot and a sustainable stew for surf chats. There was always an interesting perspective, new angle or different approach being brought up to making a positive impact on people and the planet.
As surf crew in attendance, like Joel Fitzgerald, Mia Francis, Rusty Miller and Pacha Light, would agree, competition is the last thing on anyone’s mind at the Byron Bay Surf Festival. The vibes and stoke are high. No matter where you turn there’s a friendly, smiling face ready to chat and share a wave. We’re proud to be a main sponsor for the 2022 Byron Bay Surf Festival and to share the weekend with the community that turned up.
