Where is the Varuna surf shop?

The Varuna Surf shop is located at 3/16 Tasman Way, Byron Bay Industrial Estate.

We rolled up the big door, swept open the slider and stacked over 150 Varuna surfboards wall to wall, upstairs and down.

There’s just enough room for a super comfy couch, an earthy jute rug, some thriving plants and a couple Varuna crew to talk you through how we’ve partnered with local and global iconic shapers like Maurice Cole, Joel Fitzgerald, Stuart D’arcy, and Renaud Cardinal. When you come to the Varuna Surf shop, you can also see (the super secret) prototypes of our yet to be released shaper collaborations.

Varuna Wooden Surfboards

We’ve got over 50 demo boards ready to be tested in what is becoming a Byron Bay spring swell season for the ages. Days in the bay are stretching out, with west winds in the morning and a run of dreamy swell turning Wategos, The Pass and Main Beach into peaky playgrounds. We echo the feelings and meandering thoughts on connection of artist and Varuna ambassador James McMillan.

“The surfing lifestyle takes me to the beach, which takes me to the bush, which takes me to the ocean, to the sunrise, to the sunset. To walk down the beach with a timber board under your arm and then go into the water, feels like a tree, the water, you.”

This wonderful seasonal shift comes at the perfect time to open the Varuna Surf shop. The air of change brings a desire for newness and innovation that marries mama ocean’s natural gifts with the want of the community to have a positive impact on the sea country around us.

How to ride a Demo board?

All you need to do to take a board demo for a spin is to leave your credit card details or a passport / driver license. If you send us a message on Instagram, an email through to harry@varuna.surf then our team here will make sure you’ve got the right fins, leash and wax job for an epic session. We’ve also got a great couch and can make a mean coffee if you’ve got an extended lunch break, are passing through at a leisurely pace or want to dive into some deep chats on all things surf, shapers, sustainability or regenerative farming.

The Varuna Surf shop doors are open. Come and say hi.
