The Varuna Bang Bang model is built to perform. Jared Mell is a world class longboarder and rider of all craft so he wouldn’t be putting his brand and reputation into a longboard that doesn’t meet and exceed his high standards.

This is the longest hollow wooden Varuna surfboard that we’ve built so far. The amount of interior engineering needed to create the Bang Bang longboard with all the flex, torsion and strength needed was an unreal challenge for the Varuna team. After taking Jared Mell and Summer Richely on a 3 day log bender on the east coast of Australia and watching them surf in knee high to head high conditions there’s no doubt we’ve nailed the engineering.

Varuna’s are built from seed to surfboard. We plant the seeds to grow the trees to mill the wood to build the boards. It takes 3 years to grow the trees and 40+ hours to build each board. With over 100 hand crafted steps to completion of the Varuna Bang Bang these really are one of a kind creations. If you haven’t seen how strong our Varuna’s are have a quick look at the below video where we broke boards in order to fix them - 10 hits with a metal hammer!

The Bang Bang film features Jared Mell and Summer Richely testing the very first models along the east coast. We scored perfect log waves in the dreamiest conditions and had an unreal team there to capture the action. Dan Scott filmed and edited the production, Laura from Flying High Drone covered the air angle, Hunter Vercoe and Alec Baker swam. We had Beau Young come along for the trip riding his Pendulum Swing model so you can imagine the level of surfing that went down. Below are some stills from the film that will be launched on our Varuna Surf YouTube channel in March. Subscribe to the channel to get the first view of it.
